Smith continues to be the go-to guy and will carry a bulk of the load. He was a Canadian Olympian who didn’t see action, and has had some injury troubles over the years. Dubnyk, who bounced around last season between 3 NHL franchises (EDM, NAS & MTL) seems resigned to being a backup after failing to prove himself as a number 1 as an Oiler. He was a fourth option in Montreal down the stretch and finding a backup job was probably a godsend as he attempts to prove himself over again, hoping for a chance if injuries strike Smith once again.
