Evander Kane has now made it public that he is not happy to remain in the Winnipeg Jets organization, adding more fuel the fire. The fourth overall pick in the 2009 National Hockey League entry draft is looking to be shipped out of Winnipeg as soon as possible. It’s no secret that Evander Kane has made mistakes over his young career, including recently liking a tweet that was encouraging Philadelphia Flyers GM, Ron Hextall, to bring the young forward to the City of Brotherly Love. Evander Kane was also recently on TSN 1040 in Vancouver saying this about the situation in Winnipeg, “Well, I think I’m a Winnipeg Jet right now, and, you know, there’s been speculation and rumors the three years since I got there. So, you know, we’ll see what happens and we’ll carry on as if I’m a Winnipeg Jet.” This is anything but a commitment to stay in Winnipeg long term.
There is no question that Evander Kane has some growing up to do, but with so much skill and potential, it’s hard not wanting a player of his caliber on your team. The Winnipeg Jets forward has racked up 200 points over his five year career, including a 30 goal campaign in his second year in the league.
The last time Evander Kane threw on a red jerseys was at 2009 IIHF world junior hockey championship where he won a gold medal right here in Ottawa.
Is it possible to ever see Evander Kane wear a red jersey in Ottawa again?
It’s been said that the Ottawa Senators are looking to add one more piece to the roster, and have been working on a deal for some time now, and either their trading partner hasn’t made their mind up on a prospect or the deal has fallen through. So why not take a look at Evander Kane?

The Ottawa Senators are deep on the right wing and would benefit from adding a top 6 left winger. Evander Kane could definitely play that role and fits into the mold the Ottawa Senators brass are trying to build. Evander Kane is a 6’2”, power forward with speed and skill, which seems to be the direction that the Ottawa Senators are taking. Recently at the Ottawa Senators development camp there were only three players less than 6’0” tall, so it’s clear the way the Ottawa Senators are going with their draft picks and signing of free-agent prospects. With the foundation in place it looks like the Ottawa Senators are going to bring the hard nose, fast hockey from the West over to the East in hopes of having success like the Anaheim Duck and the Los Angeles Kings.
Evander Kane would add size and speed to the Ottawa Senators lineup and will add some depth on the left side. It would not be easy to acquire someone with the skills and potential he possess. Winnipeg would probably be looking for something along the lines of a roster player, a top prospect, and pick.
In my eyes, it’s something that the Ottawa Senators should look into, but should be cautious about at the sametime because of Evander Kane’s past and his attitude. If the Ottawa Senators are looking for hard working, character players they need to make sure they know what Evander Kane is going to bring to the table every game. If everything checks out, Evander Kane could be a good piece moving forward, though he is a long shot to wear Ottawa Senators red anytime soon.
