Ottawa Senators forward Kyle Turris, who has set career highs in goals and assists this season has been named the first star of the week by the NHL.

He led the Senators with 7 points and a +7 rating this week, helping the Senators secure points in all 4 games. He had 2 goals and an assist on Sunday to help the Senators beat the Flames 6-3.

The Senators went 3-0-1 in the week, that saw them make a run that is most likely too little, too late to make the playoffs, although there is a faint glimmer of hope.  The Senators sit 6 points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets with just 8 games to play and 4 teams to pass.

Turris’ previous career highs were 12 goals and 17 assists, set in each of the last two seasons.  He now has 25 goals and 30 assists this season.

A couple of Olympians who play for the league’s top two teams were named the second and third stars of the week.  Patrice Bergeron was the second star with 5 goals an 1 assist for the Bruins and T.J. Oshie was the third star posting 4 goals and 2 assists for the St. Louis Blues.
