The Ottawa Senators have placed winger Cory Conacher and defenseman Joe Corvo on waivers, perhaps opening up roster spots for incoming players ahead of tomorrow’s 3PM trade deadline.
Conacher was acquired last year at the trade deadline for Ben Bishop, but hasn’t really shown the offensive punch he was expected to deliver after arriving in Ottawa from Tampa. He was one of the leading rookie scorers in the NHL when he was acquired, but in limited top 6 exposure didn’t click on the top 2 lines.
His style of game is suited to a bottom 6 role and when he got the opportunity he provided some energy to the lineup.
Corvo was signed as insurance against the injured Erik Karlsson. He has been a professional in his demeanor this season despite not playing much recently, especially since Cody Ceci emerged and took such a prominent role.
These moves could be insurance against not having roster space, and I am sure Senators GM Bryan Murray is trying to find them new homes before tomorrow’s deadline.
Either way, it looks as though there are some irons in the fire that would bring in NHL level talent.
