Binghamton Senators leading scorer Mike Hoffman has been called up by the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. The news comes after Mike scored two goals in Saturday’s loss to the Utica Comets halting the team’s four game winning streak. Before the Olympic break, Stephane Da Costa and Mark Stone were sent down by Ottawa and remain with Binghamton for the time being.
Some fans feel a trade is imminent, but Hoffman just has better numbers during the last six games of the break scoring seven goals and five assists in leading the Senators. Da Costa (1g 3a 5g) and Stone (3g 5a 5g) also helped the club to a 4-2 record that increased their first place lead to six points over Hershey and Norfolk in the East Division.
Hoffman, fresh off his AHL All-Star Classic award-winning best player for team AHL, is second in points with 30 goals, 37 assists for 67 points in 51 games behind Texas Stars Travis Morin‘s 28 goals, 42 assists for 70 points in 49 games. He is second in the league in goals scored and third in assists and leads with power play points with 35.
So the numbers are there and his season has been more than stellar for the B-Sens, but the big question is where are you going to put him in the line up and how effective will he be this time around for the big club. His last call up was for three games recording no points in early December and hopefully this time around he’ll see minutes in the top two lines instead of the fourth line to show his worth. Then again, Mike has to prove to his doubters that his season is not just a fluke and he can bring it to the big show.
