OT Win For Binghamton Over Syracuse 4-3

The Senators won their 1st game of the 2013-’14 AHL campaign in front of a loud crowd of 4105 4-3 in OT at the Arena. The new bright lights and comfy seats provided fans an experience to remember as Binghamton was losing by a 3-1 deficit in the third only to rally back with 3 unanswered goals for the win in OT. That quieted the Crunch fans real quick who made the trip down I-81 and the B-Sens fans got the ole barn rocking in celebration.

GAME RE-CAP

1st period was scoreless as both teams were feeling their way around. In the process Mark Stone was injured and taken to the hospital afterwards for x-rays as he fell into the boards awkwardly. Then, Mark Boroweicki and Philippe Paradis had a violent collision as Mark suffered the worst from the clean hit. Coach Luke Richardson said that there is no concussion symptoms but neck pain as result of a whiplash. Later David Dziurzynski got some snow sprayed into the face of Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and Joey Mormina wasn’t pleased as the two fought with Mormina getting the best of  DD.

2nd period the Sens were sloppy and sluggish and without Boro Bingo’s blue line got real raw, real quick. Syracuse took advantage scoring the 1st goal of the game at 1:24 by Dana Tyrell off the pad of Nathan Lawson. The Sens tied it up 3:35 on the pk as Derek Grant had a nifty take away from Nikita Nesterov at center ice to face Desjardins with a breakaway and scoring five hole. Seems as if Grant hasn’t missed a beat after leading the AHL with 5 shorthanded goals last season. Syracuse got their fans revved up by scoring their 2nd goal, also shorthanded, at 15:41 by Tyrell’s second of the night as it trickled in off of Lawson to take a 2-1 lead. Crunch would add to it at 18:58 mark by Evan Rankin beating Nathan cleanly for a 3-1 commanding lead as the Sens were outplayed.

Time for a comeback. 3rd period Corey Cowick got things started by banging home a juicy rebound at 6:42 to narrow the lead by one. At 9:13 Mika Zibanejad scored on the pp with a beautiful one timer from the near blue line from a perfect pass by Chris Wideman to knot it up at 3. It was a laser perfectly placed behind Desjardins. Amazing shot by Zibby.

Time to celebrate! Sens game winner at 2:13 in OT Andre Petersson found Codi Ceci all alone and scored from the left side of the crease with an upper right corner shot. The fans went crazy and I’m sure Ceci’s parents did too as they were in town for the weekend.

-NOTES

The D played young at times and it showed with crucial mistakes. Also, we again are getting knocked around  like last year by the physical play and Syracuse knows it as that is their style. That’s what happens when you have a really young team and why a guy like Darren Kramer did not get sent down to Elmira. It’s tough to find roster spots for everyone but the Sens could’ve used him tonight. I’ll take the ‘W’ regardless. Lawson ended up with 32 saves.
