Seven goalies, 17 blueliners and 33 forwards received invitations, including 2013 first round pick Curtis Lazar and 2012 first round pick Cody Ceci, who will both be attending their first NHL camps.
Also invited was Danny Hobbs, who was a part of the Senators’ rookie team last week on a tryout basis, and showed enough at that camp to earn an invite to the main camp. The Shawville native was exclusively in the ECHL last season.
Jarrod Maidens was invited to camp, despite missing the rookie tournament with a recurrence of the concussion problems that have plagued him for over 2 years and now have to be included in the career threatening category.
Other than that, there were no big surprises on the invite list, no free agents of note that are looking for jobs like Mason Raymond (Toronto) or Brenden Morrow (Carolina)
There is also no indication that the Senators are looking outside the current roster for a replacement for Jared Cowen should the contract stalemate extend into the season. Cowen was invited to camp as well, but probably will not attend until his name is on the dotted line.
