The Silver Lining To The Ottawa Senators Race For Eighth

While much of the city of Ottawa is in full scale panic mode, and with just a one-point cushion over the Winnipeg Jets, there will be many people looking for a silver lining.  There are some, as long as you look at them positively.

First off, Ottawa controls their own destiny.  With three games left to play, they will have the opportunity to decide their own fate.  I know, after the last couple of games that might not ease a lot of minds, but at least they do not have to rely on help.

Secondly, Winnipeg is in two separate battles, and trail both by a single point.  They are not only chasing Ottawa (and the Rangers) but also the Capitals for the 3 seed.

Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, is that Winnipeg finishes their regular season on Thurdsay night in Montreal.  Even if they win out, Ottawa will still have 2 more opportunities to get the job done regardless of what happens.  With a little bit of luck, Washington will beat Winnipeg on Tuesday and Ottawa will beat Washington on Thursday and the weekend will not matter in terms of making the playoffs or not.

There is still a ton of things that can happen between now and Ottawa’s next game Thursday.  The Washington – Winnipeg battle Tuesday will be vital.  A three point game would be the worst possible outcome.
