Seven “First Career Goals” Good, But Not An NHL Record For The Ottawa Senators

He follows in the footsteps of Andre Benoit, Dave Dziurzynski, Mika Zibanejad, Jakob Silfverberg, Eric Gryba and Patrick Wiercioch as the lucky 7 who have had pucks to put on their mantles this season.

However, after seeing a number of people question if it was a record, I took some time to check it out.  I don’t know what the record is exactly, but I found one season that had more.

The 2005-06 Penguins had 8 players score their first NHL goals that season.  Admittedly it was a full season but Sidney Crosby, Maxime Talbot, Erik Christensen, Ryan Whitney, Michel Ouellet, Colby Armstrong, Shane Endicott and Noah Welch all notched their first NHL goals in the season following the lockout.

Again, I am not sure if that is indeed the all-time record, because finding it out appears to be a task for Elias Sports Bureau to determine for sure, not a simple guy with a laptop.

Just answering the question about Ottawa possibly setting a record, and indeed they have not…yet.
