In light of the injury to Craig Anderson, goalie Robin Lehner has been recalled by the Ottawa Senators. Also, Stephane Da Costa has been sent down to Binghamton.
While the move to bring up Lehner is not surprising, the demotion of Da Costa is a little puzzling. I can think of a few reasons why it could be:
- Anderson is not hurt bad enough to put on IR for a week and thus the Senators needed a roster spot.
- Peter Regin will be taken off IR, and Da Costa is the odd man out since he and Regin are similar players.
- The Binghamton Senators need an offensive presence and Da Costa is the best option to send back without hurting the Ottawa Senators.
Or it could be a combination of 1, 2 or all 3 of the above. Da Costa has looked impressive in some spurts, but did not get much ice time last night. If Regin is good to go, then he replaces Da Costa’s role.
