Ottawa Senators Goalie Craig Anderson Omitted From NHL’s Three Stars Of The Week

The NHL named their three stars of the week, and Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson was not among them.

Patrick Marleau, Martin St. Louis and Corey Crawford were named the three stars for the first nine days of the season.

I think that the NHL got at least 1 of them wrong.

Marleau has 9 goals in 5 games and leads the NHL in scoring with 13 points (tied with linemate Joe Thornton).  He had two goals in each of San Jose’s first four games.  So that one I agree with.

Corey Crawford had 5 of Chicago’s 6 wins in nine days, which is very impressive.  He definitely deserved consideration for the honour and I don’t begrudge his name among the top three.

St. Louis had a good week, with 8 assists and 11 points in 5 games.  But he sits third in scoring & doesn’t lead the NHL in any major category.

Anderson, meanwhile, had 4 starts and did not allow more than one goal against in any of his 4 starts.  Prior to Sunday’s game, he had not allowed an even strength goal, and still has not allowed a goal in the second or third periods, or overtime.  The only blemish on his record early this season is that he allowed all three Penguins shooters to score in the shootout last night.

He leads all goaltenders in GAA (0.73), SP (.975) and sits tied for 2nd in shoutouts (1) and and 3rd in wins (3).

You decide.
