Ottawa Senators Lock Up Erik Karlsson

Erik Karlsson has been locked up for seven more years in the nations capital today as he signed a 7 year, $45.5 million deal with a cap hit of roughly $6.5 million per year. The deal was done quickly once the two sides touched down in Las Vegas for the NHL Awards, as Ottawa GM Bryan Murray made it very clear getting Karlsson locked up for the long term was the main goal this week before any draft discussion. The Norris Trophy candidate and 2008 15th overall selection by the Senators led all league defencemen with a milestone 19 goals and 59 assists for 78 points.

While the price is certainly a fair penny, it ranks lower than that of newly crowned Stanley Cup Champion Drew Doughty, who rakes in over the $7 million mark with regular season numbers not near that of Karlssons.

So Sens Army what do you think of the deal?
