The previous games have featured quick goals in the first period, this one didn’t. Throughout the first, neither team was able to solve the opposition goaltender. However, 6:08 into the second Zach Parise would tip a shot past Scott Clemmensen to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. They would build that lead early in the third with two quick goals by Steve Bernier at 2:02 and Travis Zajac at 3:35. Ilya Kovalchuk would put the game away at 8:32, giving the Devils the 4-0 lead.
That would be the final score earning Martin Brodeur his 24th playoff shutout, a new NHL record. In addition he also picked up an assist on the second Devils’ goal on this milestone night for him. The series is tied 2-2 heading back to Florida.
