Saturday Morning Three-Peat
Here are the top stories from a light night around the NHL on Friday:
1. Hawks Spiral Continues – The Chicago Blackhawks lost their 7th in a row, walking into San Jose and losing 5-3 to the Sharks. The losing streak has to end soon, doesn’t it?
2. Wings Love The Joe – Detroit is one home win away from tying an NHL record for consecutive home wins. Todd Bertuzzi’s slow motion SO winner over the Anaheim Ducks gave the Red Wings their 19th straight win at Joe Louis Arena. And they have done the last two with Joey McDonald in the net, with Jimmy Howard injured.
3. Hockey Day In Canada – All 7 Canadian teams will be in action Saturday, with 3 all-Canadian matchups and a Winnipeg-Pittsburgh battle to celebrate CBC’s annual Hockey day In Canada. The show kicks off at noon, with games at 2:00 (WPG-PIT and EDM-OTT), 7:00 (TOR-MTL) and 10:00 (CAL-VAN). Interspersed will be a number of feel-good hockey stories from around Canada and a bad Ron MacLean sweater, all of which has become an annual tradition. For my money, why not have 4 games – 2:00, 4:30, 7:00 and 10:00. Then all 7 teams could have national exposure, instead of splitting viewers for the 2:00 games.
