Sunday Morning Three-Peat
Here are the top 3 stories from around the NHL on Saturday:
1. Subban Slew-foot – Montreal Canadiens defenseman PK Subban was fined the maximum $2,500 for a slew-foot trip of Pittsburgh Penguins winger Chris Kunitz. This type of check has been used often by Subban and it is about time he got some supplementary discipline for it, so he now has a track record and he is now an offender.
2. Briere, Kane Concussed – More star players in the NHL have hit the injured list with concussions. Now it is Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere and Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane. The epidemic of head injuries doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and they are hitting some of the game’s top players more and more often. As for Kane, there is no truth to the rumour that it was not a hockey-related injury, but the work of some disgruntled waitress.
3 Streaky Tavares – New York Islanders centre John Tavares scored the game tying and game winning goals in the Isles 2-1 OT win over the Carolina Hurricanes. He now has points in his last 12 games, making it the longest scoring streak in the NHL this season, and the longest by an Islander in almost 10 years.
