13th East (3-5-0) @ 9th East (3-3-2)
In the final minute of Saturday’s game versus the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets, the Sens trailed 3-2 but came through to pull of a near miraculous victory. They scored twice in the final 37 seconds of regulation and were able to get the win. This is the first time this season that the Sens have won two games in a row, and they now look to extend that streak. However, the Sens will have to play a much more complete game if they want to get another win tonight. Though they looked good in the dying seconds, the rest of Saturday’s game was nothing to brag about. Tonight they play a statistical tougher opponent than the last two teams they faced as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, NC. The Sens will need to bring a much stronger game if the want to keep their streak alive.
The biggest change for the Sens in tonight’s match-up is the absence of Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. Alfredsson has a minor injury and did not make the trip with the team. He will be replaced by Kaspars Daugavins, who has been called up from Bingo. You can read more about that change in Tony’s post here. Other than that the Sens sport a very similar roster to the one they had Saturday night, with Craig Anderson getting his third straight start in net.
Here’s the expected Sens line-up for tonight’s game:
Forwards:
Michalek – Spezza – Greening
Condra – Smith – Neil
Winchester – Da Costa – Konopka
Foligno – Zibanejad – Daugavins
Defenseman:
Gonchar – Cowen
Kuba – Karlsson
Phillips – Rundblad
Goaltenders:
Anderson
Auld
The Senators have a lot to change from the way they played Saturday even though they picked up the win. If the Sens can go back to playing a full 60 minutes of hockey and out-shoot the opposition, they have a good chance at winning this game. The play and point production of the Spezza, Michalek, Greening line will also be a big factor in this game.
The game tonight is particularly important, not just for the team, but for us here at SenShot. We made a wager on tonight’s game with the writers of the Carolina Hurricanes Fansided site, and for the sake of all our readers, and of course Sens fans in general, we hope our team can pull out another win tonight.
Check back here after the game to see how that works out, and to see SenShot’s full game recap. Enjoy the game and GO SENS GO!!!
