Ottawa Senators Training Camp – By The Numbers
Stats can be made up to prove anything. 87% of people know that. Hahaha. An old joke, but got me thinking, and I did a little looking into some interesting facts about the players in Senators training camp. Here is a breakdown of Sens camp by the numbers as they head into the season’s first exhibition game Monday night in Toronto:
1 – New first time NHL head coach
59 – the total number of players in camp. Of those 59:
2 – Stanley Cup rings (Gonchar, 2009, coach Paul MacLean 2008)
13 – Players that were never drafted in the NHL Entry Draft
15 – Players that were 1st round NHL draft picks
15 – Players that have never played a professional game in North America
17 – Players who played for Binghamton during last season’s Calder Cup playoff run
19 – Players on one-way NHL contracts
28 – saw at least one game of NHL action last year
31 – Canadian born (13- USA, 5- SWE, 4 CZE, 3 RUS, 1 each from FRA, LAT & DEN)
32 – Ottawa Senators draft picks
1,477 – NHL goals scored by all camp attendees (Alfredsson – 389, Parrish 216)
There are a ton more, but for your Sunday evening, these are just some of the ones that interested me.
