Lightning did strike for Tampa to the tune of 3 goals in 1:27 in the first period, and they rolled the rest of the way to a 5-2 victory over the Boston Bruins in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Sean Bergenheim, Brett Clark and Teddy Purcell all beat Tim Thomas in quick order just past the midway point of the first. Tyler Seguin netted his first career playoff goal in is first playoff game, but the Bruins could get no closer. Marc-Andre Bergeron and Simon Gagne added to the lead in the third period, with Johnny Boychuk scoring very late to get Boston one closer, but it was too little too late. Shots were very even at 34-33 in favor of Tampa, but Dwayne Roloson was better than Thomas on this night.
The Western Conference Final kicks off tonight in Vancouver, with the Canucks hosting the San Jose Sharks.
