Kings Bow Down To Sharks, Lightning Strikes Again

The second round got another entrant last night as the San Jose Sharks triumphed in overtime 4-3, to dispatch the feisty Los Angeles Kings in 6 games.  Joe Thornton was the hero with the winner just over 2 minutes into the extra frame.  San Jose had just killed off a 5 minute power play for the last minutes of regulation and the first part of overtime, before the much maligned captain sent his team to Round 2, at 2:22.

In the other game 6 last night, the Tampa Bay Lightning avoided elimination for the second straight game and forced a game 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy Centre.  Steve Downie was the hero with a goal and two assists in the 4-2 victory.

Meanwhile, tonight is a big night for fans of Canadian teams, as both Montreal and Vancouver face elimination.  The Canadiens host Boston for game 6, trailing 3 games to 2, after blowing a 2 game lead.  Carey Price will be counted upon to finally win a home playoff game, having dropped the first two at the Bell Centre.  The Canucks, meanwhile,  have choked away a 3 game lead and if they lose the fourth in a row, Vancouver will not be a great place to be this summer.  Philadelphia will be the scene for another game 7 as the Flyers host the SabresBrian Boucher‘s name was picked out of Peter Laviolette‘s goaltending hat and will get the start after Michael Leighton couldn’t get the job done in game 6, which the Flyers eventually came back to win.

The second round will get at least 2 new entrants tonight!
