Derrick’s Most Memorable Sens Moment

In a season chock-full of disappointment, it can be hard to remember anything positive happening, let alone acknowledge those moments. But, as isolated as they may have been, there were some outstanding displays in the 2010-2011 campaign for the Ottawa Senators, and we would be remiss as Sens fans if we didn’t take a second to appreciate a few of them.

For my most memorable moment, you have to go all the way back to October 22nd in game against the Buffalo Sabres. Going into the game, on the road in Buffalo, Captain Daniel Alredsson was just three points shy of 1000 on his career. Alfie netted two goals against Sabres’ all-star net-minder Ryan Miller in the first two periods, and then, in the dying seconds of the third period, this happened:

In true Daniel Alfredsson fashion, he had reached the 1000th point plateau via hat trick, on the road, against a heated rival. Just another notch on the belt for the Captain. With the trick, Alfie became the 75th player in NHL history to reach 1000 points. When I saw that backhanded flick shot find the empty cage, I yelled a tremendous yell, of course, but then I sat back in my couch and had to shake my head and have a little chuckle. Only #11 would achieve such a tremendous milestone in such dramatic fashion. Easily my most memorable Sens moment of the year.
