Your Ottawa Senators  return home to Scotiabank Place to take on the hottest team in the NHL, the Washington Capitals tonight. Fresh off their 2-1 shootout victory over the NY Rangers last night, Ottawa will play their last home game of the month before they head out on a three-game road trip. With seven wins in the month, Ottawa is hoping to close the month out with a winning record (if they do, it’ll be the first time all season they had a winning record in a one month period).

Expect to see Craig Anderson in nets for Ottawa as he had a great game last night in NY making 30 saves. Mike Brodeur has been called up to back-up as Curtis McElhinney will miss the game due to personal reasons. Milan Michalek will also return to action from his broken foot that caused him to miss the last 12 games.

The Caps have been on a roll since the trade deadline. Winners of 11 out of their last 12 games, Washington has clinched a playoff spot and are looking to win another Southeast division title. Alex Ovechkin will miss tonight’s game as he has been put on the shelf for 7-10 days to rest up for the playoffs.

Players To Watch

Ottawa – Ryan Shannon has been on fire as of late. With four goals in his last five games, Shannon is excelling with his increased ice time. Trying to earn a contract for next season, Shannon is filling in well as Ottawa’s second line centre.

Washington – John Carlson  has quickly established himself as a stud defenceman in the league. The rookie of the year candidate has four points in his last four games and has stepped up in Mike Green’s absence.

Keys to a Ottawa Victory

Goal tending – Craig Anderson will need to be at his best tonight with all the offensive weapons on the Caps roster.

Defence– even with Ovie gone, the Caps still have Russian sniper Semin who always seems to score against us. He needs to be contained tonight.

Sens Army – with only four home games left, Sens Army needs to enjoy these games as it will be awhile before hockey returns to SBP.

Check back here after the game for a recap of tonight’s action. Enjoy the game and GO SENS GO!!!_______________________________________________________________________________
