15th EAST (20-32-9)VS. 11th EAST (26-27-11)

Your Ottawa Senators battle the Atlanta Thrashers tonight in Hot-lanta. Coming off a hard fought 1-0 loss to the Boston Bruins, Ottawa will look to get back in the win column tonight. With Ottawa auditioning rookies and goalies, the Sens are just looking for a solid 60 minute effort from the whole team.

There will be no line-up changes from the last game, so Ottawa will ice the team of rookies and AHLer’s again. Craig Anderson  will continue to tend the Ottawa net and Curtis McElhinney will be his back-up.

At the other end of the ice, Atlanta is looking to get back on track after a horrible February has them sitting outside the playoff picture. Having gone 2-6-2 in their last ten games, they are one of a few teams that has a worst record than Ottawa in their last ten. With only 18 games left in their season, Atlanta will be in a dog fight just to squeak into the playoffs. If they have any hope to make the playoffs, tonight is a must-win game.

Players to Watch

Ottawa – Ryan Shannon has seen his ice time increase with all the trades and injuries to the Sens roster. And he has taken the extra responsibility and excelled. Playing his best hockey of the year, Shannon has four points in as many games.

Atlanta – Andrew Ladd  has been on fire lately with seven points in his last nine games. With Atlanta in danger of falling out of the playoff mix, captain Ladd has elevated his game to lead this young squad.

Keys to a Ottawa Win

Pucks on net – Atlanta has allowed the third most goals in the league. With a shaky back-end, Ottawa needs to fire as many pucks as they can at the Thrashers net.

Discipline – the Atlanta powerplay is ranked 9th in the league, so Ottawa can’t give them any momentum with the man advantage.

Goal tending – even with Anderson in nets, Ottawa has to limit the traffic in front of him. Especially if Big Buff gets near the crease.
