Game Report: Hawks Down Sens 3-2 in SO

facebooktwitterreddit

Your Ottawa Senators battled the defending Stanley Cup champions last night in Chicago to reach the mid-point of the season with a 3-2 overtime loss. Now having lost four games in a row, and coming off an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Leafs, the Sens showed an improvement in their game. However, the result was the same and Ottawa now sits in the bottom five teams in the league.

With the Sens poor play of late, there were a few positives from this game. Daniel Alfredsson  and Milan Michalek  both got on the score sheet last night with their 13th and 8th goal of the year respectively. Alfie opened the scoring with a goal in the second period on the powerplay, his seventh with the man advantage. And Michalek scored a clutch goal to send the game into overtime with only 1:25 left in the game.

Brain Elliott  rebounded from his last outing to make 24 saves and to keep Ottawa alive in the game. Making a few impressive saves, Elliott’s only blemish was that he could not make a save in the shootout.

There were negatives from this game, but the Sens have been dumped on so much lately, we’ll forgo the negatives. Here are the game highlights  courtesy of NHL.com.

***Three Stars***

First Star: Brian Elliott – for bouncing back with 24 saves.

Second Star: Daniel Alfredsson – earns it with a goal and an assist.

Third Star: Milan Michalek– for getting on the score sheet.

The Sens have a quick turnaround as they have to head back home and take on the Southeast division leading Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s going to be a tough battle as the Sens hope not to lose their fifth in a row. ‘Til next time, GO SENS GO!!!!!
