Senators Tibbits

Just a few news stories from the past week or so relating to your Ottawa Senators.

Scoring has been a major issue for the Sens this season as they have only scored 62 goals on the season and 17 goals in their last 12 games. Just to give an example of how bad the Sens scoring abilities are, NHL scoring leader Sidney Crosby, who leads the league with 50 points has more points than the Sens top three scorers – Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Alex Kovalev have a combined 47 points. Crosby also has more goals than the three combined as Sid the Kid has 26 goals and Ottawa’s trio has 21. It’s no wonder the Sens have struggled as of late.

To help solve their scoring problems, Ottawa has called up rookie Bobby Buttler from the AHL where he is the league leading goal scorer with 15 goals in 25 games. In two games so far, Bobby has no points and has averaged just over 11 minutes of ice time. Bobby needs to be stronger on the puck and keep his game simply to be successful at this level.

On the waiver wire, the Sens have put Brian Lee and David Hale on waivers last week and both have cleared since. Hale was sent to the AHL Binghamton Senators to provide a veteran presence for the young squad. Lee on the other hand has remained in Ottawa as GM Bryan Murray seeks a trade. This has to be a blow for Lee as no other team took a chance on him and now he is waiting in limbo to have his future decided.

‘Til next time, GO SENS GO!!!!!
