Game Report: Sens Beat Rangers 3-1

Your Ottawa Senators battled the New York Rangers Sunday afternoon with a different result then their past few games. With only two wins in their last ten games, and only scoring a grand total of 13 goals in that stretch, Ottawa toughed out a 3-1 victory in New York.

Chris Kelly  had a hell of a game as he scored his first career NHL hat-trick and generated all the offence for Ottawa. Breaking out of his ten games pointless streak, and 15 game goal-less streak to net three goals this game, Kelly doubled his goal output on the year. Playing well as of late, Kelly finally got rewarded for his hard work.

Pascal Leclaire  got his second win of the year and like Kelly, was rewarded for his hard work. Stopping 25 of 26 shots he faced, Leclaire shut down the Rangers and should earn another start after this game.On the negative side, the Sens powerplay  allowed another short handed goal as they let the Rangers’ Brandon Prust break in on Lecalire and get one by him. The powerplay has allowed short handed break-a-way after short handed break-a-way and this game it cost them. The system has to change as the PP is starting to cost the Sens.

Before the Sens(Kelly) broke out of their scoring slump, Ottawa set a new franchise record  for the longest streak without scoring a goal. The Sens went over 203 minutes before they finally lit the lamp.

***Three Stars***

First Star: Chris Kelly – earns it with his hard work and the trick.

Second Star: Pascal Leclaire – earns it for getting his second win of the year.

Third Star: Filip Kuba – for an assist and a plus 3 on the afternoon.

The Sens built off their strong game against the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night and took it to the Rangers. Just winning their third game in their last eleven games, the Sens broke out of their scoreless streak and hopefully can build off this performance. ‘Til next time, GO SENS GO!!!!!
