Game Day: EDM @ OTT

15th West (6-12-4)   VS.   10th East (11-12-1)

Your Ottawa Senators will host the Edmonton Oilers tonight at Scotiabank Place with the puck drop at 7:30pm. With Ottawa having loss five of their last seven games, and now sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference, Ottawa needs these two points badly. Coming off two strong games against the Penguins and Leafs over the weekend, Ottawa will need to have the same effort to win this game. With Ottawa’s good home record and Edmonton’s poor road record, Ottawa should have the advantage tonight.

Tonight will be the first chance that Ottawa fans get to see the three-headed rookie monster that is Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi. These three have had respectable starts to their careers and are exciting to watch. Eberle can be remembered by Ottawa fans for sending the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship into overtime when Canada was down to team Russia with only a few seconds left.

Another player to watch will be the return of the ‘Gerbinator‘ as it is expected that Martin Gerber will start for the Oilers. Gerber had an uneventful three years in Ottawa before he spent last year in the KHL. Gerber always played strong against the Sens, so we’ll see how he does tonight. Good to see him back in the league as he was always a hard worker and most times just didn’t get any breaks.

Ottawa will ice the same line-up they did against the Leafs Saturday night and will hope for the same offensive output from the Kovi-Fish-Michalek line. Hale and Lee will be healthy scratches and Brian Elliott will be in nets after he recorded his second shutout of the year.
