Welcome to Wamsley’s World

In a week hugely forgotten for the Ottawa Senators and it’s fans, and with everything leading up to July 30th and August 2nd, Bryan Murray did something we all forgot about: hiring a goalie coach.

Remember when the Sens were in a 6-game losing streak, with both Brian Elliott and Pascal Leclaire losing it? All the fingers in Bytown pointed at goaltender coach Eli Wilson. Wilson was fired, and Ottawa made the playoffs. Well, 5 months later we have his replacement. And he comes by the name of Rick Wamsley.

Wamsley is a former Stanley Cup-winning goaltender, playing for 4 different teams throughout his career. He recently was the goaltender coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the associate coach of the Peoria Rivermen, the St.Louis Blues’ affiliate.

While having proven experience as an NHL goalie gets you a job, the deciding factor in Murray’s decision here is clearly his experience with Pascal Leclaire in Columbus. Whether or not he can finally groom Pascal into “the goalie” in the Nation’s Capital, it remains to be seen.
