1. Zdeno Chara had a goal and two assists to help the Boston Bruins past the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3.   Boston goalie Anton Khudobin made 29 saves in his first action of the season to get the win.  Eric Staal had a goal and an assist in the losing effort for the Canes.  Boston still does not have a regulation loss, and sit on top of the Eastern Conference, 2 points up on the Senators in the Northeast Divsion.
2. The Columbus Blue Jackets needed 24 saves from Sergei Bobrovsky to win their first game since opening day, with a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars.  Vinny Prospal scored the winner early in the third period, while Derek Dorsett had the other for the Blue Jackets.  Jamie Benn had an assist and 4 penalty minutes in his first game for the Starssince signing his new contract late last week.
3. Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Chad Johnson, only on the roster because of Mike Smith‘s injury, made 21 saves to defeat the Nashville Predators 4-0. It was Johnson’s first NHL game since March 31, 2011.  Keith Yandle had a goal and two assists to pace the Coyotes offense, who victimized Pekka Rinne for 4 goals on 25 shots.
4. The Edmonton Oilers scored 4 times with the man advantage and Devan Dubnyk made 37 saves to give the Oilers a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalance.  Ales Hemsky, Jordan Eberle, Shawn Horcoff and Nail Yakupov all counted with power play goals with Taylor Hall and Sam Gagner each adding two assists. P.A. Parenteau broke Dubnyk’s shutout bid near the middle of the third period as the Avalanche peppered the Edmonton net with 24 shots in the third period alone.
5. The Los Angeles Kings overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie it up in the last minute, and went on to beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in a shootout.  Jeff Carter scored the first Kings goal and  was the only shooter to score in the shootout to give the Kings the win.  Slava Voynov tied the game with 44 seconds left in the third period as LA’s late game excitement continues.  Roberto Luongo got the SO loss, making 26 saves in regulation and overtime to earn the Canucks a point.

There are the highlights of Monday’s action. There are 10 games on the schedule for Tuesday, highlighted by Washington’s visit to Ottawa in a battle of the Nation’s Capitals.  New Jersey visits Boston in a matchup of the two Eastern Conference teams without a regulation loss this season, while the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Buffalo Sabres.
