The complete schedule for the second round series between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins was released yesterday, and with the spacing of games, there will be no reason to complain about fatigue being a factor. There are 2 2-day breaks early on, a benefit that the Senators didn’t have in the first round because they were the last team getting started in the playoffs.

April 28, 2013; Boston, MA USA; Ottawa Senators right wing Daniel Alfredsson (11) reacts after an empty net goal by center Kyle Turris (7) during the third period against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
Here is the entire schedule:

Tuesday, May 14th OTTAWA @ PITTSBURGH 7:30pm

Friday, May 17th OTTAWA @ PITTSBURGH 7:30pm

Sunday, May 19th PITTSBURGH @ OTTAWA 7:30pm

Wednesday, May 22nd PITTSBURGH @ OTTAWA 7:30pm

Friday, May 24th OTTAWA @ PITTSBURGH 7:30pm

Sunday, May 26th PITTSBURGH @ OTTAWA TIME TBD

Tuesday, May 28th OTTAWA @ PITTSBURGH TIME TBD

All of Ottawa’s games, much to the chagrin of Senators fans, will be on CBC as Ottawa is the last Canadian team standing. However, I wouldn’t expect the much maligned Bob Cole to be calling the series, as it should (and I stress should) be the network’s top duo of Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson calling the game. However, CBC does also have the Chicago-Detroit series, so I wouldn’t put it past them to send their top play-by-play tandem to do that series, just to spite Ottawa and its fans.

We shall see.

The Ottawa Senators – Montreal Canadiens schedule could feature two sets of back to back games should the series go 7 games.

Game 1 – Thursday May 2nd @MONTREAL

Game 2 – Friday May 3rd @ MONTREAL

Game 3 – Sunday May 5th @OTTAWA

Game 4 – Tuesday May 7th @ OTTAWA

Game 5 – Thursday May 9th @MONTREAL

Game 6 – Saturday May 11th @ OTTAWA

Game 7 – Sunday May 12th @ MONTREAL

Games 1-5 are at 7:00, with games 6 and 7 TBD, depending on television commitments etc. All games will be televised on CBC and RDS.

Mar 13, 2013; Montreal, Quebec, CAN; Ottawa Senators right wing Jakob Silfverberg (33) scores a goal against Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price (31) during a shootout at the Bell Centre.

How will back to back games affect the teams? Well the travel between Ottawa and Montreal is not too demanding, so as long as the ice time is managed properly and Erik Karlsson is kept below 40 minutes per game then the Senators should be all right.

The big concern would be if game 1 or game 6 goes deep into overtime or even multiple overtimes. That is when it could be a problem in terms of having enough recovery time. The Habs-Sens series is the only one with the potential for 2 back to backs. All of the other Eastern Conference series could have game 6 and 7 on consecutive nights.
