UPDATE: SINCE NOBODY CORRECTLY GUESSED ANDRE BENOIT, THIS CONTEST WILL CARRY OVER TO THE THURSDAY NIGHT GAME AGAINST THE NEW YORK RANGERS.

So since my last contest went horribly awry, I am running another contest to win my Bruins-Sens tickets for Monday March 11th.

This time, simply predict who will score the game winning goal in tonight’s <del>Islanders</del> Rangers-Senators matchup. Obviously you can select a player from either team, thereby eliminating my chance to jinx anyone.

Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

In the event of a shootout, the person scoring the deciding goal will be deemed to have scored the winner. For example, if Alfredsson scores and then Silfverberg scores and Anderson stops all the shooters he faces, the GWG for the purpose of this contest will be Alfredsson’s goal that made it 1-0. Silfverberg’s goal will be counted as insurance, even though it could clinch it.

In the event more than 1 person picks the correct game winning marksman, all correct entries will be entered into a draw for the tickets.

There are 3 ways to enter (please only 1 guess per person total):

1. Make your guess in the Comments section below.

Washington Capitals took a 3-2 series lead with their victory last night, the first lead they of the series. They won’t have to wait long for a chance to eliminate the favoured Bruins since the two teams square off again this afternoon in the first back-to-backs of these playoffs. This series has been one of the closest of round one, the first four games all being one goal games, two of them decided in overtime. Yesterday was no different.

Alexander Semin opened the scoring, getting a goal for the third straight game. That opening goal didn’t come until half way through the game, but once it was there more just kept coming. Beagle quickly increased the lead to 2, but a few minutes later Bruins would score two of their own. Seidenberg had the first Boston goal and just 45 seconds later Marchand had one too, tying the game.

The Caps took back their lead early in the third as Knuble found himself in a prime spot on the far side of Thomas to knock in a rebound. Boston wouldn’t go down that easily. A perfect opportunity came midway through the third when Dennis Wideman was sent to the box for cross checking, and they would take advantage of it. Seidenberg converted for the Bruins to again tie the game. Time counted down and overtime was looming but the Capitals then got a power play opportunity of their own and with just over a minute left Brouwer scored to give Caps another lead. Perhaps it was redemption for earlier in the week when Boston had the goal in the dying minutes to win it, regardless Washington won the game 4-3 and took the series lead.

Game 6 is today at 3pm.
