Ottawa Senators fans are going to get a nice look at two of the best prospects the organization has to offer.

Amid all of the trade rumors on their team, the Ottawa Senators announced today that RW Drake Batherson and C Logan Brown will be called up to the NHL.

This announcement comes just one day after a 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils where Mark Stone, Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel were all left off of the starting roster.

Call it an attempt to distract everyone from the trade deadline debacle (An attempt that will fall), but this is still a chance for folks to see just why Batherson and Brown are so highly touted in the AHL.

The Dynamic Duo

Batherson has been on a tear in his rookie season with the Belleville Senators. The 20-year old has 18 goals and 31 assists in 41 games, leading the Senators in scoring and tied for 8th in all of the AHL. His performance led to him being the only Senator to make the AHL All-Star Classic, where he would win the MVP award in the All-Star tournament.

Brown, also in his rookie season, has been at Batherson’s side and he has been just as prolific at scoring points. The 6-foot-6 (!!!) center has found the back of the net 12 times along with his 22 assists, placing him third on the Senators in scoring. The former first-round pick and Batherson (A fourth round pick in 2017) have led Belleville back into playoff contention, with the team just four points back of a playoff spot at the time of writing.

Don’t Call Them Up!

Despite their impressive statistics, the Ottawa Senators should not call these guys up right now. A playoff run in Belleville is far more important than giving them playing time in Ottawa. The season is lost, and the fans aren’t going to come back for a couple of good prospects. These guys should continue building their chemistry in the AHL and possibly gain the experience of a long playoff run, not waste away on a roster that will be lucky to win ten games for the rest of the season.
