In the latest player movement forward Matt Puempel has been recalled by the Ottawa Senators as prospects are finally giving a look by the parent club. Earlier today, Shane Prince was returned to the Binghamton Senators to make room for Puempel, as this is the first call up for Matt to the show.
The 22-year-old native of Windsor, ONT is in his second season for Binghamton having scored 12 goals and 20 assists in 51 games while seeing time on the wing on the first line and also participates on the power play. He’s slowed down some from his fights but still can muscle his way into the offensive zone without any problems.
A first round pick in the 2011 draft (24th overall), has quick hands and is strong on his skates and of course he can be lethal around the net as evident of his 30 goals scored last season. His goal pace has slowed while he’s padding the assists column this season as rather than taking the shot he’s seeing the ice better in setting up plays while still hounding around the net.
It’s great to see him rewarded for his solid work as he brings energy and enthusiasm on the ice, which is really amusing at times with him having some wild celebrations after putting the biscuit into the back of the net.
Let’s hope he does the same for Ottawa.
