The Binghamton Senators skid now hits five and losers of 11 out of their last 13 as the Hershey Bears win 3-2 led by Chris Connor’s two goals. Senators get goals by Colin Greening (1st) and Garrett Thompson (3rd) as the primary offense was stymied by Hershey’s goaltender Pheonix Copley (29 saves).

GAME RECAP

Senators with the early jump as Hershey goaltender Copley making saves on Cole Schneider in front and Thompson’s one timer. Then Max McCormick and Alex Guptill go on a two on one rush with Copley flashing the leather making a glove save on Guptill. Senators finally cash in with Buddy Robinson’s head pass finds Thompson as he does a little dipsey do move and scores for the 1-0 lead. All Sens as the Bears appear flat-footed.

More from Belleville Senators

Bears get a fluke goal as Scott Greenham stops a slapper by Casey Wellman but the puck rolls into the corner of the net by a falling down Greenham to tie things up. Hershey then takes the lead when Chandler Stephenson carries the puck into the zone and sets up behind the net and finds Connor alone by Greenham’s corner as his shot glances off of Greenham and in making it 2-1.

At 2:33 into the third Stanislav Galiev skates towards the cage and fools everyone from behind the net as he looked to continue on with his forward movement but instead passes behind him to an open Connor as he scores his second of the evening upping the Bears lead to two.

Greening cuts the lead back to one scoring his first of the year for Binghamton as he moved along a Schneider lead pass finding a seam through Copley at 10:35. That goal energizes the Senators but Matt Puempel’s one timer is gloved by Copley. Greenham is pulled for the extra attacker with 43 seconds left but time runs out in a 3-2 loss. Shots end up in favor of Sens 31-25.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS

  • Fredrik Claesson appeared to help the puck get by Greenham on the Bears first goal in the first period, as he reached for it but looked to help it along some.
  • Robinson had another solid game on the PK as he uses his big body and long reach in picking off passes as he had several good shorthanded scoring chances.
  • Chris Wideman with a late hit on Wellman after the whistle was blown put the Bears on their second power play as Wideman will do that from time to time.
  • Former team mates of quite a few Senators was Jim O’Brien as he assisting on Wellman’s tally while wearing #14. Not hard to miss him on the ice with his quirky skating style and long reach.
  • Senators absolutely killed it in the opening 10 minutes but tough goal given up by the Bears first as that seemed to deflate the building.
  • Only four penalties called as missing was the typical emotions these two teams have had in the past.
