David Clarkson Is Horrible, Bryan Murray To Step Down, Top 6 Search

facebooktwitterreddit

Ok, here’s another round of our favourite pieces from Around the Web. Sunday January 25th, 2015. This weeks pieces range from David Clarkson to Ottawa’s top 6/centre search as well as some of our favourites from Senshot.

Pension Plan Puppets, “David Clarkson Is A Balrog” – not norm ullman

Submission: Josh Chenoweth

So, not a piece about the Senators, but I think we should remember the Sens pushed hard to sign David Clarkson back in the summer of 2013.

We should also remember Bryan Murray continues to talk about adding a top-6 forward and in the past has mentioned wanting the player to be a “hard forward,” which sounds a lot like the perception of Clarkson. This fan-post breaks down how terrible David Clarkson really is.

WTYKY, “A Systematic, Game-by-Gae Breakdown Of The Rest Of The Season” – Varada

Submission: Zachary Prenner

Cancel your Gamecenter subscriptions, Varada from the always entertaining WTYKY has got a breakdown of every game the Sens will play for the rest of the season (sure, the first two are wrong, but at least the wins an losses are still the same).
It’s going to take a bit of a miracle to make the playoffs, so let’s hope the Sens show more consistency than Varada did through his last few predictions

SensChirp “ChirpEd #46 Revisited” – AutoTurris

Submission: Trevor Shackles

Sens Chirp Reader, AutoTurris takes a look at Patrick Wiercioch and why he’s better than most fans think and that he should have a different role on the team.I’ve always been a fan of Wiercioch, and I definitely think he doesn’t get the credit he deserves sometimes.

Ottawa Citizen “Bryan Murray Likely To Step Aside As Senators’ GM” Wayne Scanlan

The citizen’s piece on Bryan Murray is a great one. According to an interview, Bryan Murray is set to step down as Senators GM in the off-season. Murray is a well liked guy and a great exec in the NHL. Wishing him the best as he battles cancer.

Broad Street Hockey, “Sean Couturier’s -5 day is the perfect example of why +/- is awful” – Travis Hughes

Submission: Eldrinson Vado

The plus/minus stat is garbage, we all know that. Travis Hughes (@TravisSBN) of Broad Street Hockey provides another solid case why plus/minus should be demolished with a break down of Sean Couturier’s -5 day against the New York Islanders.

The reason I’m sharing this article is because Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson is often criticized as a bad plus/minus player. People like to evaluate Erik’s play on one simple stat. No one seems to realize relying on one stat to measure a player, especially plus/minus is the worst way to go about it.
