Trade Talk: About That Top 6 Forward… More On Marc Methot

facebooktwitterreddit

An interesting report came our way from Bruce Garrioch this week, and that’s that Bryan Murray is still pursuing a Top 6 forward.

Ottawa’s previous interest in Chris Stewart is known, and as he’s heading into a UFA season it’s quite possible Ottawa pursues him in the future. But according to Garrioch, this sounds like a different type of deal.

We see a quote from Bryan Murray in Garrioch’s piece.

"“What I’ve talked to several teams about is a forward,” Murray said. “A guy is maybe a little more experienced, a known point-getter or at least has a chance to get points. Those aren’t easy to come by.“We know we need another first-line player. We have players who have a chance to get there, but they’re just not there right now, and that’s hard to get.”"

The deal Murray seems to be talking about doesn’t seem like a rental situation. It seems like a guy who Murray can be around for a while and is still young enough to be desirable.

If that’s the case, then the Senators have a few pieces to dangle in finding a potential suitor. You’d have to think prospects Shane Prince and Jean Gabriel Pageau could fit in a deal. The Senators hold 2 2nd round picks to this upcoming draft and I think Patrick Wiercioch or even Alex Chiasson could be had for the right player.

It’s likely to be a package deal, as you have to think Ottawa doesn’t want to give up that important roster guy right now. Furthermore, maybe Ottawa considers to build up the middle even further. Ryan O’Reilly is a guy who has been known to be available, and at 23.. I wouldn’t mind Ottawa giving up a nice package to acquire O’Reilly’s services.

Marc Methot

We saw another interesting report spring up as Methot continues to play without a contract for next season. It comes via Bob McKenzie who claims Los Angeles could have interest in Methot.

Chris Nichols runs an amazing site where he recaps what the insiders have to say, from there we get a direct quote from Bob McKenzie.

"Los Angeles Kings are looking at Marc Methot and Andrej Sekera, among others, as possible defensive additions given Slava Voynov‘s situation."

McKenzie’s take does link Ottawa, however you have to think keeping Methot is their 1st choice especially if Nick Foligno has anything to say about that.

That’s all for now… The Senators have been active on the trade front for quite a while as they look to improve their team.

Update 15 Jan 15: Garrioch has another take on Methot’s Status.
