Ottawa Senators Forwards: Mid-Season Grades

facebooktwitterreddit

The Ottawa Senators actually had a decent start to the season. Let’s not forget that.

Last quarter’s grades were much easier to do, and in all honesty I was fairly easy in my analysis. Heck, I gave Alex Chiasson an A. Now at the mid-way point, certain things have changed. Here’s how I’m re-evaluating Ottawa in these 2nd quarter grades

The 41 game mark has brought new narratives to the team. We finally began to see Mika Zibanejad produce at an acceptable level, and others have been good as well.

2nd quarter Grades:

B+. <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: A-. Ottawa Senators. CLARKE MACARTHUR

"MacArthur’s pace: 24 goals, 46 points"

A. The argument is there that <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: A. Ottawa Senators. MIKE HOFFMAN

"Mike Hoffman is on Pace for a 30 goal season"

Sénateurs D'Ottawa. ALEX CHIASSON. C. I gave Alex Chiasson an A last time around, and I guess I was just excited about a new player coming into town. This time around, I’m not a courteous as Chiasson receives a C. In the 2nd quarter he recorded just 5 points and 2 goals. Not good. . Quarter 1: A

B. Stone had a good start to the season, and I think it’s safe to say he’s a full time NHLer at this point. He’s fallen a tad out of favour in <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: A-. Ottawa Senators. MARK STONE

A-. Considering <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: B. Ottawa Senators. BOBBY RYAN

"Remember that goal he scored vs LA? Wow… https://gfycat.com/LeftHeavenlyClam"

Ottawa Senators. KYLE TURRIS. A-. <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: B+

C. <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: B-. Ottawa Senators. DAVID LEGWAND

A-. Mika Zibanejad had a big 2nd quarter. To look at his Q1 performance and his Q2 performance, it is night and day. For that, Mika Zibanejad gets an A- for turning his game around in the 2nd quarter.. Quarter 1: C. Ottawa Senators. MIKA ZIBANEJAD

"After being a healthy scratch, Zibanejad posted 14 points in December."

Ottawa Senators. MILAN MICHALEK. C+. I’m not sure what to think of <strong><a href=. Quarter 1: C+

Ottawa Senators. COLIN GREENING. C. Greening wasn’t rated in the first quarter, he wasn’t used under MacLean and has been inserted into the lineup due to injuries. I did a piece on Greening’s analytical production and how it was the best on Ottawa, but he hasn’t found a way to get it done to remain a top 12 forward on this team. For that, he gets a C.. Quarter 1: NR

B. Condra has been one of Ottawa’s most reliable penalty killers and bottom 6 guys for quite some time. As a pending UFA, it would be a mistake to not offer him a new contract. Condra is steady and gets the job done, for that he gets an expectation met B.. Quarter 1: NR. Ottawa Senators. ERIK CONDRA

*J.G. Pageau, Zack Smith, Chris Neil, and Curtis Lazar all missing due to time spent else where. Injuries, World Juniors, Binghamton.
