Jean Gabriel’s Season Debut: Ottawa Senators @ Devils Predictions

The New Jersey Devils are openly criticized for their boring style of play, even by Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, as the Sens head to play the Devils. Here’s our predictions. The Devils actually happen to be the only other NHL team I have interest in, as Martin Brodeur is simply a legend.

Trevor Shackles (11-18)

The Ottawa Senators like to have fun with my emotions. Every win they get my hopes up, but the next game they can never follow it up. It seems they’re always losing one then winning one, so I’ll go with the road win tonight.

Ottawa is 6-3-1 in the last ten games against New Jersey, so the head-to-head match-up already serves us in our favour. Don’t expect a lot goals tonight with Cory Schneider and Craig Anderson in net.

Tonight is the debut of Jean-Gabriel Pageau in an Ottawa Senators uniform this season, JG-Pageau adds some valuable depth to the club, moving Curtis Lazar to the wing and play a more attacking role. The goal total tonight might reach 5, so that leads me to my prediction, I’m going 3-2 Ottawa tonight.

I honestly don’t know what kind of game Mr. Jean Gabriel Pageau is going to have. I feel like it’ll be quiet, but strong nonetheless… UNLESS HE SCORES A HAT TRICK CAUSE PAGEEEEEEEEEAAAUUUU PAGEAUPAGEAUPAGEAU PAGEEEEAAAUUUUU PAGEEAAUUUUUUU.

But, Sens win.

Patrik Elias is back in the lineup for New Jersey, he’s an impact player. Somehow, Scott Gomez has found out to be that player as well.

I feel like New Jersey always gives us a hard time, but I think Ottawa has played good hockey lately. The game @Bos was good, and we put up a good fight to one of the league’s hottest in Buffalo. (That’s weird to say)

I say Ottawa takes it tonight. Big games from Zibanejad and Karlsson for a little swedish flavour.

Two teams with very similar records. Ottawa just couldn’t pull it out in shoot outs against Buffalo. I think they take tonight’s game. I am basing this on a dream I had in which a Spartan warrior defeated a tiny imp like Devil. The battle happened in the state of New Jersey which draws similar to tonight’s game.

The Sens have been a pretty up-and-down team the last two seasons, winning when they should be losing, and losing when they should be winning. They lost to Buffalo, a game they should have had based on the standings and the fact that they let two leads slip away, including a 4-3 lead with four minutes left in the third.

That all being said, it looks like it could be time for a rebound, and as much as their defensive play has been awful, I am noticing more effort and more importantly more results from the forwards on all four lines in the last few games. I’m going to predict the Sens take this one, and Curtis gets another goal — this time for the win. 4-3 Senators in OT.

Sens fall 4-3 in a shootout! That’s right. The Devils. Shootout win. Book it. Just call me Nostradamus. Silver lining will be Lazar and Pageau scoring though.

The Sens have a single regulation win in the last month now, and while Cameron’s time as head coach has seen better forechecking and defensive play, asides from that three minutes and change stretch against the Sabres, the Sens are seriously lacking on talent on the back end. Phillips returning isn’t likely to help that.
