SenShot Predicts – Ottawa Senators vs Colorado

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, a lot of our writers got into the win column with the Senators win over the Panthers.  There are still a couple of SenShot staff members looking for their first correct prediction…Let’s see if they can get on a roll with their picks for tonight’s home opener against the Avalanche.

You can see Eldrinson’s Game Preview here.

And now for today’s version of SenShot predicts:

Josh Chenoweth (0-3)

The Sens have had trouble with the Avs recently, losing the last 3 games. I think that continues with Ottawa feeling overconfident after winning 2 on their road trip despite being outplayed for stretches. Plus, Ottawa’s lack of scoring (5 goals in 3 games) may bite them. 5-2 Avs.

Jack Leiper (0-3)

Sens lose to Colorado in their home opener. We hear the new goal song and Reto Berra in for Semyon Varlamov comes as a positive for the Sens, however they don’t get it done against a Colorado team coming off a loss to the Maple Leafs.

Travis Valois (1-2)

The 2-1-0 Senators take on the 1-2-1 Avalanche. I predict big things from Karlsson tonight. The Senators playing good defense, improved offense and winning the home opener.

Both teams have had trouble keeping shots away from their goalies. Both Ottawa and Colorado are in the bottom three in the league for shots against per game, I’d expect a shooting gallery in today’s game. I’m going 3-2 Ottawa at home. Will finally see some offense open up for the Sens in this one.

Charlie Arseneault (1-2)

Goaltending is the only reason the Sens have two wins. Unless Anderson or Lehner end up having another great game, I don’t like their chances. 4-2 Colorado.

Zachary Prenner (1-2)

The Sens and Avalanche are actually pretty similar when you think about it. Both played seasons where their goaltenders played out of their minds, masking the teams’ defensive woes (two seasons ago for Ottawa and last year for Colorado). It’s a case of so far so good for the Senators as both Anderson and Lehner have played very well in the action they’ve seen, and hopefully that continues tonight. Colorado’s struggled out of the gate, but they’ll get no sympathy from Sens fans who went through a full season of it last year. I feel like the opener is going to energize the team, especially Karlsson and whomever gets swapped into the lineup that was previously scratched. If our ‘tenders can play to the level we know they can, I see the Sens taking this one. Final score 4-2 Senators.

Jared Crozier (2-1)

This is a tough call.  Home openers always are, with the pageantry surrounding the game. It is difficult to know how a team will come out. The Senators could be flying, or they could be distracted.  I am going to think Curtis Lazar provides a spark after sitting out Monday night, and Anderson stymies the Avalanche attack.
