The Binghamton Senators roared back from a 2-0 deficient midway through the 2nd period and scored the game’s last five out of six goals in defeating the Syracuse Crunch 5-3 at the Arena d’Patinoirel in Lyon, France before about 2600 observers in the preseason opener. Andrew Hammond was in goal for the entire contest making

a lot of good saves as there was no shot clock. Seemed to be the usual pesky play between the two rival’s that featured three fights despite it being an exhibition game as some players are also still trying to survive the last cuts.

The line-up per Grady’s tweets..

– B-Sens lines tonight vs SYR: Prince-Camper-Thompson, Guptill-Dzingel-Schneider, McCormick-Grant-Mills, Kramer-Culek-Hobbs.

– B-Sens defense: New-Wideman, Sdao-Mullen, Wishart-Rutkowski…Hammond slated to go the distance in goal. Wong – F & Lepine – D scratched

GAME RECAP

The only way to follow the game was through Grady’s live tweets. No camera’s, no radio, no AHL updates, just Grady. So instead of basically recapping what he has to say, I’m going directly to his actual tweets during it. It’s not the best way but it ‘s the only way.

So here is the scoring with a few highlights mixed in per his live tweeting..

– Cody Kunyk opens the scoring 4:00 in, converting a beautiful drop pass from Yanni Gourde. Beats Hammond high glove from the mid slot.

– Centering pass from behind the Sens net deflects up and may have bounced off of Jerome Samson and in at 3:31 of the 2nd. 2-0 Crunch.

– Schneider steals deep in the Crunch zone, throws it to the right circle where it’s rifled top shelf by Troy Rutkowski for a SHG. 2-1 SYR. Dzingel draws an assist on the Bingo goal as he just got a piece of the centering pass that found Rutkowski.

– Prince centers out of the right corner to Camper who snaps it off the catching arm of Vasilevskiy to tie the game at 2 at 10:54 of the 2nd.

– As the PP expires, Chris Wideman sends a drive to the front, deflects off of Vasilevskiy and in at 18:37. Sens with their first lead 3-2.

– Joel Vermin had his first shot blocked by New, but picked up his rebound, skated to the slot and scored over Hammond’s blocker at 3:37. 3-3

– And off the face-off, Wideman rips one from the high slot, beating Vasilevskiy for a 4-3 Sens lead at 4:37.

– Off face-off, New’s center point blast beats Vasilevskiy for another PPG and a 5-3 lead at 13:55. Schneider w/ lone asst.

NOTES & OBSERVATIONS

  • The B-Sens started slow and fell behind by a goal then another fluke one, but scoring five goals in the first preseason game? I’ll take it.
  • It appears Danny New is back and sounds like he had a good game. Hopefully gets a AHL/ECHL contract offer for the reliable defenseman providing depth as he’s more than capable to fill in when needed.
  • Dropping the gloves were Guptill (?), McComick (!) and Kramer as they seem to spark up the crowd through the magic of twitter.
  • Dzingel, McCormick, Guptill, Camper, Prince and Schneider mentioned mostly in Grady’s tweets other than the ones mentioned here. Wideman Star of the Game honors.
  • I just discovered how difficult it is to cover a game without actually having watching it. Thanks Grady for your efforts!
