The Boston Bruins were in control from start to finish as Tuukka Rask made 23 saves to shut out the Detroit Red Wings 3-0.

A pair of players scored their first career playoff goals in the first period.  Dougie Hamilton carried the puck in and put a wrist shot far side on Jimmy Howard while Jordan Caron put a rebound on a Shawn Thornton shot as the Bruins took advantage of a bad line chance to go up 2-0.

That was more than enough goal support for Rask, as he and the shutdown game of the Bruins took over. Patrice Bergeron iced it with an empty netter, launching a shot from inside his own blue line with 2 minutes left to seal the deal.

The  Red Wings, who professed to play their style of game, got caught up after all in the Bruins’ antics, with each team taking 4 minor penalties.  The Bruins play that style of game on a regular basis and make no apologies for it, but it is out of character for the Red Wings and they aren’t as comfortable in playing that style, and it is working to Boston’s advantage.

The Red Wings will attempt to get even in the series and avoid heading back to Boston facing elimination when they square off for game 4 Thursday night.
