Defenseman Mark Borowiecki Recalled By Ottawa Senators

With the continued struggles in defensive zone coverage that are costing them games in the standings, the Ottawa Senators have reached down to Binghamton and called up B-Sens captain Mark Borowiecki.

Borowiecki will reportedly be in the lineup when the Senators face the Dallas Stars Sunday afternoon.

Borowiecki is pointless and has  -2 rating with 27 PIMs in 9 games with Binghamton, but will bring a physical brand of hockey, and if nothing else will serve notice that coach Paul MacLean and GM Bryan Murray will not stand pat with the defensive lapses the Senators have displayed so far this season, that is bordering on the comical.

Borowiecki played 6 games with the Ottawa Senators at the beginning of the abbreviated 2013 season, going scoreless with a +1 rating and 18 PIMs in his 6 game stint.

The third year pro has played 8 games in the NHL, and who he will replace in the lineup has yet to be determined, but it could be anyone, as not one blueliner has stood out for good defensive zone play so far this season.  Patrick Wiercioch has already been a scratch for a couple of games, and the way he has struggled so far, it might be Jared Cowen’s turn to watch a game or two from the press box.
