Jean-Gabriel Pageau Sent To Binghamton By Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators did the inevitable today and have demoted last year’s playoff darling Jean-Gabriel Pageau to the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.

With 1 goal in 8 games and a -3 rating, Pageau has played just 1 game since the Oct 17th win over the New Jersey Devils, missing time with a minor injury.  In his 8 games he never played more than 14 minutes, and he was averaging just over 10 minutes per game.

Also hurting his chances to stay in the NHL was a 30.0 Faceoff percentage, meaning he couldn’t be sent out to start penalty kills because the team would more often than not begin without the puck.

He will get to play a lot in Binghamton, probably around 20 minutes or so, and can continue to learn the game under Luke Richardson.

It was a near impossible task for Pageau to live up to the expectations that grew throughout the summer after the hat trick in the series against the Canadiens made him the toast of the town.  People tended to forget that he is still a very young player who is a long term project and tried to force him into a spot he was and is not ready for on a full-time basis.

This is definitely not the last Ottawa has heard of Pageau, and no doubt with his attitiude and work ethic he will be back soon.
