1. Nathan MacKinnon, Avalanche

MacKinnon was prepared to go first overall, and after a season-long battle with Jones, ended up getting the spot.  Only 1 first overall pick since Ottawa drafted Chris Phillips in 1996 has the first overall pick not played in the NHL the next season.  That was Erik Johnson of the Blues. Alex Ovechkin also didn’t play the season after he was drafted, but there was no season to play, because of the lockout.

That trend should not change this year and MacKinnon should be a regular for the Avalanche.

Drouin: “He is talented enough to play in the NHL, but the maturity factor could keep him in Moncton for another season of development.” I think you mean HALIFAX!! I wish we would’ve had him in Moncton!

    • Jared Crozier

Dammit. I always get those two mixed up. I had Moncton first, and changed it..thanks for the catch.

No worries just thought I’d point it out lol, I live in Moncton, and there is nothing more I would’ve love than having Jonathan Drouin play for the Wildcats haha

At least we got to see Dmitrij Jaskin (St Louis Blues prospect) and Ivan Barbashev (possible top 10 talent in 2014 NHL draft) play together, unfortunately both disappeared during playoffs lol
