The highly sought after NCAA Free Agent Danny DeKeyser did not surprise anyone and did indeed sign an entry level contract with his home state Detroit Red Wings.  After a Justin Schultz-like interview process, DeKeyser opted to ink with the Wings, who were considered the favorite all along to sign the Western Michigan University defenseman.

Edmonton, Anaheim, St. Louis and Nashville were reportedly in contention.  It was suggested that the only thing standing in Detroit’s way to signing the prize of the NCAA free agent crop was their reputation for bringing prospects along slowly and not rushing them. The Wings must have done a good enough sales job to allay those fears and got the player signed on the dotted line.
