Ottawa Senators Put Kaspars Daugavins On Waivers

According to various reports, one of the most popluar players in the Ottawa dressing room is about to be taken out, one way or another.  Latvian Kaspars Daugavins, who always seems to be in a good mood and bring levity to the dressing room, was put on waivers today, and either he will be picked up by another team or he will be sent to Binghamton.

Not one to put up many points, Daugavins is a hard worker and a very good penalty killer, which might make him attractive to some other teams as they check the waiver wire.

Still, despite the fact that he has been a healthy scratch, the move surprises me because a guy like Dave Dziurzynski wouldn’t require waivers and doesn’t offer much more than Daugavins does.

Hopefully, Daugavins will not get claimed and will remain in the organization and can go contribute to Binghamton until he is needed again in Ottawa.  Judging by early twitter reaction, Sens Army agrees with me.

I don’t think the infamous penalty shot had anything to do with it.  But it probably didn’t help.

The move might mean that Buddy Robinson might be given a look at the NHL level to see where he is at, or Jason Spezza is close to returning.  Either way, its still risky to lose a popular player in the dressing room.
