The Souteast Has Goalie Problems – But Don’t Expect A Senators Deal

Over the course of a couple of days two Southeast teams each lost their starting goalies, likely for 6 weeks or more.  Jose Theodore left Saturday’s Panthers game with a groin injury that could cost him 6 weeks, and the Carolina Hurricanes Cam Ward left yesterday’s game with a sprained MCL and is on the shelf for 6-8 weeks.

Mar 3, 2013; Sunrise, FL, USA; Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward (30) collides with defenseman Justin Faulk (27) and Florida Panthers right wing Jack Skille (12) and was injured on the play against the Florida Panthers in the second period at the BB

Cue the Craig Anderson/Ben Bishop rumours.  With Ottawa needing help on the offensive side, expect rumours abound that Ottawa will be dealing one of their goalies down south to fill a need there.

Well, its not likely to happen.  Florida is not going to panic with Jacob Markstrom and Scott Clemmensen as their tandem.  Carolina might be a little more suspect with the pairing of Dan Ellis and Justin Peters, because Ellis can’t play against the Senators every night.

While Bryan Murray might make the call and kick the tires on a potential deal, the injuries are temporary in the grand scheme of things and neither team will be willing to part with the necessary pieces that Ottawa would need to make such a deal at this point in time.

So rumours will fly, but that is all they are.
