Forbes magazine unveiled its annual look at The Business of Hockey today.  The Ottawa Senators ranked in the middle of the pack, with a valuation of $220M, ranking 16thin the league.

The Toronto Maple Leafs had the highest valuation.  The Leafs are worth One Billion Dollars, according to the magazine.  The St.Louis Blues limped in with a value of only $130M.

The magazine makes a few observations of note in its article:

  • The league made over $200M in profits last season, but 13 teams lost money.
  • Toronto made almost $82M in profit.
  • The Senators made $14.5M
  • The 13 teams that lost money lost a combined 130.2M
  • The 2 most profitable teams (Toronto & NYR) cleared $155.9M on their own.

Over the coming days I will be expanding my analysis of the report and throwing in my two cents about it and the lockout.
