Kyle Turris signed a five year contract extension Wednesday that will keep the 2nd line Centre in Ottawa for the next six seasons. The value of the extension, which kicks in after the upcoming season, is worth $17.5m, of an average of $3.5m per season.
After the shenanigans and holdout last season in Phoenix, it is good news that Turris seems happy in Ottawa and his “troublemaker” reputation might have been an isolated incident.
All in all, this seems like a very fair deal for both sides. Going forward, Turris should continue to progress, and as hard as I was on him during the season after his arrival, he should be able to provide value for that money for years.
Good timing and a great signing by GM Bryan Murray.
