The Buffalo Sabres, by way of Sabre Noise, select defenseman Cody Ceci from the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL.
With some disappointment that the Ottawa 67’s defenseman is heading to a division rival, as I was hoping he would somehow slip through to Ottawa at #15. Ceci is the prospect that I have seen in person more than any other player, about 40 times live this season. Ceci is the total package of smarts, ability and timing and he is a horse capable of playing 30 minutes per game or more in the OHL. He has the size, shot and skating ability to be a top pairing defenseman in the NHL. The only knock against Ceci is that he isn’t a “banger” and prefers to use body positioning and leverage to separate opposing players from the puck instead of delivering the big hit. If that is the biggest problem with his game he will do just fine. A great selection by the Sabres, although I don’t think come June 22nd that he will still be on the board at #12. He should be a top 10 pick in the real draft.
On the clock with the #13 pick is the Dallas Stars and Blackout Dallas.
