St. Louis Blues took their first lead of the series Monday night with a 4-3 victory over San Jose. Their power play proved to be effective, leading the way by converting on three out of four chances.

Patrick Berglund had the first one, finding a puck alone in the crease after a rebound by Niemi. San Jose quickly countered with a power play goal of their own, Brent Burns capitalizing ofF a mis-play by Russell.

It remained tied at one after the first but the blues quickly regained their lead in the second with Andy McDonald firing one past the Sharks goaltender just a minute into the period. Arnott increased the Blues lead later in the period with another power play goal.

Less than a minute into the third they struck again. Alexander Steen’s slap shot beat Niemi, giving the blues their third power play goal of the night. Andy McDonald picked up another assist, giving him points on all four goals. San Jose wouldn’t go away that easy though. They made things interesting near the end, Colin White scoring three minutes left. Logan Couture then made it a one goal game with his goal but with only seventeen seconds left they couldn’t get another to force overtime. Blues held on to win it 4-3 and take a 2-1 series lead.

Game 4 is Thursday at 10:30.
